This is the first level of the Compliance Analyst classification hierarchy. Employees at this level solve or assist in solving problems, in a single area of specialization, with general supervision. Incumbents are expected to develop skills, and the ability to work with greater independence. They have knowledge of fundamental concepts and understand how to develop and apply procedures while balancing Duke Energy’s internal (e.g., IT502, IT503) and external regulatory compliance requirements (e.g., FERC, NERC, NIST, Sarbanes Oxley) and the needs of the business.

Responsibilities

Compliance Program Support
-Carries out assigned tasks in support of Compliance program

-Demonstrates basic knowledge of Compliance and related technologies and controls.
-Gathering data for responses to legal and regulatory inquiries.
-Displays basic knowledge in the use of compliance tracking tools and procedures for the Compliance program.
-Correlates incident data to trending events and assist in corrective action solutioning
-Assist in the assessment of the effectiveness of internal compliance controls support to business, customer, and/or peers via straightforward work assignments.

Project Management
- Carries out individual work assignments of a less complex nature to meet established work schedules.
- Receives work assignments and works with review and direction by management or senior analysts.
- Performs or assists in the performance of technical project work as needed to complete project deliverables.

Process and Controls Awareness
- Basic knowledge of Compliance policies, standards, processes, resources, and controls.
- Able to apply process and controls knowledge to meet compliance requirements.
- Provides input on process improvements to Compliance program.
- Correlate event data to identify trends and compliance risks. Make recommendations that enable expeditious remediation to events and prevents recurrence.
- Executes Compliance functional processes and procedures with oversight.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of program controls to ensure they provide the intended level of protections.

Customer Relationship Management
- Communicates with customers to understand compliance requirements.
- Communicates problems and resolutions to manager and/or customers.
- Basic knowledge of Compliance and its impact on business operations and support functions.
- Provides good customer support by gathering data for internal teammates.

Basic/Required Qualifications

  • Associates Degree in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Engineering, Business or Other Related Degree
  • Must pass a Personnel Risk Assessment, including 7 year background screening and annual cyber security training
  • In Lieu of Degree / HS Diploma/GED and 2 years of experience

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Has the ability to manage confidential information with a high degree of integrity.

  • Operational performer experience in utility industry, preferably in the areas of generation or transmission relaying and Protection Systems.

  • Responds well to supervisors, is easy to challenge and develop, and is easily coachable.

  • Able to work effectively with defined direction.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with supervisory review and direction.

  • Excellent listening and communication skills and puts forth the effort to understand other’s points of view.

  • Able to present information in an understandable manner both verbal and written.

  • Demonstrated ability to absorb change and continue with positive results.

  • Understanding of utility industry operations.

Working Conditions

  • Hybrid Mobility Classification – Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable daily commute to a Duke Energy facility

  • Office environment with some travel and visits to field locations. Some overtime possible

Specific Requirements

  • If NERC CIP access is required, a Personal Risk Assessment will need to be completed every 7 years and annual cybersecurity training must be successfully completed as well.
