MPC has an opportunity for an Advanced Contracts Advisor who centrally coordinates the execution of contracts for the procurement of goods and services. Interfaces with assigned business partners as liaison between Supply Chain, Tax, Insurance, Cybersecurity, Contract Compliance (audit), and Law. Captures applicable business interests, issues, and positions as they relate to model contract selection, required risk allocation and negotiations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Accountable for advancing MPC’s interests with suppliers and contractors through negotiation of high-quality agreements that ensure economic protection and rationality, relational success, image and reputation, stability and maximize transaction efficiency. Should be familiar with basic concepts of negotiations including BATNA, Aspiration Level/Targets, Reservation Points, and Bargaining Zones.
  • Provides commercial and contractual support on matters regarding contract commitments for MPC operations, including contract strategy, risk management, preparation and negotiation of contracts, claims avoidance, contract compliance and administration.
  • Interprets, drafts, and negotiates contract building blocks (“redlines”) as they relate to underlying service and supply demand.
  • Manages contract database as it relates to the contract evaluation, tracking, executing and amending of agreements for assigned business partners.
  • Responsible for ensuring contracts are completed prior to need by date for new contracts or expiration dates for existing contracts.
  • Drives continuous improvement in contracting process to minimize the overall cycle time from request to contract execution, including but not limited to, process re-engineering, developing alternative language (playbook) for use, assisting with model forms development and developing checklists. Leads CCL department projects as assigned.
  • Actively participates in team meetings and group decision-making.

Education and Experience:

  • 5 or more years of procurement, supply chain, commercial, contract development, contract management or related field with knowledge of contracting processes and basic concepts of negotiations is required.
  • Bachelor's degree is required in Supply Chain, Logistics, Marketing, IT, Engineering or other business-related fields.
  • CPSM is a plus
  • Knowledge of Contracting processes, Ariba and SAP
  • Excellent communication skills and a strong collaborator
  • Juris Doctorate or Paralegal experience strongly considered
  • Travel Expected: Up to 10%

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Professional Level 1 (P1) • Bachelor’s degree in related field. • Entry level experience in procurement, supply chain, commercial, contract development, contract management, critical analysis and evaluation of data, financials, market intelligence, or related field. Professional Level 2 (P2) • Bachelor’s degree in related field. • 2 or more years’ experience in procurement, supply chain, commercial, contract development, contract management, critical analysis and evaluation of data, financials, market intelligence, or related field. Professional Level 3 (P3) • Bachelor’s degree in related field. • 6 or more years of procurement, supply chain, commercial, contract development, contract management or related field with intermediate knowledge of contracting processes and intermediate concepts of negotiations. Professional Level 4 (P4) • Bachelor’s degree in related field. • 10 or more years of procurement, supply chain, commercial, contract development, contract management or related field with advanced knowledge of contracting processes and advanced concepts of negotiations. Juris Doctorate or Paralegal experience preferred. Professional Level 5 (P5) • Bachelor’s degree in related field. • 15 or more years of procurement, supply chain, commercial, contract development, contract management or related field with mastery knowledge of contracting processes and mastery of concepts of negotiations. Juris Doctorate or Paralegal experience preferred.
