Power Plant Operator – Co-Generation Plant – Des Moines, IA
Pay: $27.00 - $35.00 depending on level of experience and license held.
Shift Differential: $1.20/hour rotating shift
$1500.00 Sign On Bonus !
Hours per week: 40 hours
Shift: 12 hour Rotating 4on/4off days/nights

Ability to work overtime including weekends, holidays, and on occasion different shifts.

Preferred Experience: 5 years of power plant employment or relevant experience in a manufacturing environment or a relevant degree in power plant operations.

Key roles:
  • Focus on safety, quality, and integrity.
  • Shift operation (procedures) and equipment checks.
  • Master the digital control system used to monitor and control all Co-Gen plant functions.
  • Startup, operate, and shutdown the high and low pressure gas boilers.
  • Operate and adjust the steam turbine generator and all supporting auxiliary equipment.
  • Monitor and control all medium voltage electrical distribution for the facility. 
  • Review and adjust water treatment operation based upon lab test results.
  • Generate accurate legible documentation and log records.
  • Troubleshoot and perform basic maintenance of equipment.
  • Perform equipment specific lock out procedures.
  • Guide daily work activities for the Co-Gen Utility Employees. 
Job Qualifications:
  • Applicant must possess basic math, science, and problem-solving skills. 
  • Applicant must be able to work in all types of climates both inside and out including extreme hot and cold temperatures, noisy environments, heights, dusty environments, all of which require use of Personal Protective Equipment. 
  • Applicant must be able to stand for long periods, work in confined spaces and have good physical dexterity; i.e., bend, kneel, climb steps and ladders, and lift 50 Lbs. 
  • With training, the applicant must be able to operate heavy equipment including overhead cranes, pay-loaders, forklifts, and skid-steers. 
  • All employees are subject to random drug screens
  • Applicant must have the ability to work independently in an organized safe manner. 
  • Applicants must be willing to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays. 
  • Good computer and mechanical skills a plus.
