Job Summary

This is a first level supervisory position in the Overhead Construction Department of the Electric T&D – Southern Division line of business.  The successful candidate will provide supervision of assigned personnel in the overhead construction of all major new, replacement and upgraded electric outside plant facilities, including poles and overhead conductors.  Achieve the desired results of the Overhead Construction organization through the use of PSEG values and tools, sound management practices and skills and a total commitment to teamwork.  Oversee the activities of all Overhead Construction associates to ensure safe and efficient construction of outside plant facilities.  Supervise the construction of all Overhead Electric Distribution facilities.

Job Responsibilities

  • Supervise assigned personnel in the construction, maintenance and operation of associated overhead facilities.
  • Provide development and training to personnel in work practices and use of tools and equipment.
  • Promote safety principles and procedures.
  • Conduct performance appraisal reviews with bargaining unit associates.
  • Assist in the identification and recognition of unusual, unsafe or inappropriate work conditions and take necessary corrective action.
  • Assign and direct work to accomplish the desired results in a safe, efficient and expeditious manner.
  • Interface with Division Operations to ensure top quartile system reliability.
  • Maintain effective working relationships across departments to achieve Safe and Reliable operation of the Electric Grid.
  • Accept overtime, call out and on-call assignments and provide support of work activities and response to emergencies during and outside of normal working hours, including emergency response and restoration for major system and weather events within and outside of the division, including acceptance of Mutual Aid obligations.

Job Specific Qualifications

High school graduate or GED.

  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in the construction, operation and maintenance of underground outside plant facilities or overhead electric distribution facilities.
  • Working knowledge of the Company / Union Agreement and bargaining unit workforce, including knowledge of Positive Discipline process and Mutual Gains Bargaining.
  • Ability to read and understand schematics and 1-line diagrams.
  • As the job requires driving to Company locations and off-site assignments and events, must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license with a safe and satisfactory driving history.

Preferred / Desired Skills:

  • BS Degree in Engineering.
  • Mechanically inclined aptitude.
  • Ability to assist with troubleshooting, identifying and analyzing abnormal outside plant facility conditions.
  • Ability to read and understand one-line circuit prints and detail prints.
  • Knowledge of computer applications, including DWMS.
